Protein

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗜𝗡? Protein is one of the three essential macronutrients our body needs to function properly. Proteins are made up of aminos acids - 9 of these amino acids are needed for all the rest of amino acid and protein builds (i.e. essential) but our bodies cannot make these 9 essential amino acids and therefore we MUST get them from our diets.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗜𝗡? Proteins provide many of the essential functions in our body - building and repairing muscle and bones, regulating and coordinating bodily functions, transporting and storing nutrients, providing energy, aiding in digestion and immune system support…to name a few.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲? So you might be thinking “cool, protein is important and I need to get it from my diet. But how do I do that ?!” Eat a variety of both plant and animal-based proteins to make sure you are getting all 9 essential amino acids. Include a high-protein food at every meal. Snack on protein-rich foods like cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, edamame, or lean jerky. Incorporate a protein supplement, such as a protein shake, into at least one meal a day.
