What are you surrounding yourself with?

From cleaning products to candles, we are surrounded every day by products full of harsh and harmful chemicals.

But there are safer choices available!

Education is Key

Once you start investigating products you are using on a daily basis on your skin and hair, it is a natural progression to start looking at all of the things you are surrounding yourself with in your home. I've already done the heavy lifting here, but feel confident knowing that you can find what works best for you and your family and what concerns you most.

Cleaning Supplies

Did You Know...

Did you know that your laundry room may very well be the most toxic room in your home?

Did you know that conventional detergents are comprised of a concoction of fragrances, endocrine disrupters, neurotoxins, and potent cancer-causing chemicals?

Did you know that one of the most harmful chemicals found in laundry detergent is 1,4-Dioxane. Acute (short-term) inhalation exposure to high levels can cause vertigo, drowsiness, headache, anorexia, and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs in humans.

Did you know that dryer sheets can contain harmful chemicals that adhere to clothes, vent into the air, and rub off on your skin? These chemicals can cause health problems because they can mimic estrogen and trigger asthma.

While it may feel like the deck is stacked against us when it comes to cleaning products, my saving grace has been B Corporations. These companies put people, planet, and profit equally, and are choosing to use business as a force for good.

B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to define success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

They meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. The result is growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and environment.

Some of my favorite B Corps include Beautycounter, Seventh Generation, Athleta, TOMS, Patagonia, and BOMBAS and ChicoBag.

Cleaning just got safer.

So WHY do we care so much about ingredients in our cleaning products? Here's the deal.

According to environmental experts, the average household contains 62 toxic chemicals. From PHTHALATES + SYTHENTIC FRAGRANCES that are known endocrine disruptors  (found in air fresheners, dish soap and even toilet paper). To 2-BUTOXYETHANOL that can contribute to narcosis, pulmonary edema, and liver and kidney damage (found in window, kitchen and multipurpose cleaners). And then there’s CHLORINE + AMMONIA that can cause acute and chronic respiratory issues, create a poisonous gas when mixed together and disrupt thyroid function (chlorine is found in scouring powders, toilet bowl cleaners + mildew removers, while ammonia is found in polishing agents for bathroom and kitchen features and glass cleaners).

This list is abbreviated, but you get the point. For more information about this list, click here.

Our mission here with this little SQUEAKY company is to educate the world (or anyone who will listen ;)) about cleaning up our cleaning acts. And our success will never be based on how many products we sell, but by how many lives and homes we help make cleaner + safer.

Come on. Get SQUEAKY with us.
