Like most people, I used to think that the FDA governed the beauty industry and kept us safe.

I know better now.

Almost 5 years ago, a friend posted on social media
about the dangers of common shampoo.

I didn't understand what she was talking about. Dangerous shampoo? Isn't it just soap?

I messaged her to ask what she was talking about. She opened my eyes to the fact that the beauty industry is largely unregulated, and just because we can find a product in a store doesn't mean it is "safe." I did my own research, and realized I needed to make some changes.

Did You Know...

Did you know that the EU bans over 1400 ingredients from personal care products, while the US bans only 30?

Did you know that the last federal law governing the $70 billion/year beauty industry in the US was in 1938?

Did you know that more than 80,000 chemicals have been introduced into the personal care and beauty industry since the 1950s, and less than 20% have ever been tested safely in humans?

We all deserve better!

You don't have to change everything at once.

There are safer products out there--but you have to look. It can be intimidating to think of changing brands and habits, but if you gradually make the switch you will feel confident knowing that you are doing what's best for your body, your family, and the environment.

My Pick

Beautycounter is my go-to for skin and beauty products. I love how they perform, and I love the mission of the company - to get safer products into the hands of everyone - using education, advocacy work, and a high performing safer product line.
